Chicago and Florida - Spring Break

Maya and I made our Spring Break getaway this past week. We started with an easy drive to Chicago to spend the night with her Uncle David (before he flew off to Germany for a dance tour). We walked around his adorable neighborhood and took the El Train to dinner.
After Chicago, we boarded up for a solo plane trip to Vero Beach, FL to visit family and meet up with John. Unfortunately, poor Maya developed diarrhea and the day did get more interesting. Upon arriving to Atlanta, poor Maya pooped everywhere. I wrapped her up in her blanket and had to run the entire length of the Atlanta airport with her in my arms (not a small airport) and just made our flight. After wiping her down with baby wipes and throwing out her clothes, we made it to our destination with a shower in sight (thank god).
We spent a wonderful day with my grandparents, affectionately known as Monnie and Bumpa. It was wonderful to have the time with them and was sad to say good-bye. We also stayed with our wonderful Aunt Bridget and Uncle Earl who made the house so comfortable for us. We were truly spoiled! We spent the few days swimming in the pool, walking on the beach, collecting shells and eating wonderful meals.
Finally, we returned to Chicago to stay at my friends' house KC and Levon, who were so sweet to us. We met up with John's friend, Andy and his adorable daughter Mia (just 2 months older than Maya) for breakfast and then the Shedd Aquarium. Maya and Mia became fast friends.

Feeding the Birds with the Proulxs

We joined David, Aimee, Isabella and Jack for a wonderful afternoon of fun. Maya loves spending time with her cousins and thought feeding the birds was quite the outing. The birds loved her (a little too much).

Maya's recent entourage is expanding from just the Nutcracker these days. It now includes a Mary Poppins doll, a Bert doll and yes, even Jane and Michael Banks. So, the Mary Poppins obsession continues...

Mary Poppins Obsession

John had a wonderful two week stay in MI and we soaked up the quality time. We spent a day at the GR Museum.

The latter half of the 2 weeks was spent seeing John perform at a few places. The last event was in Big Rapids at the Blue Cow Cafe.
We had a big table of excited listeners.

Maya danced the night away, loving her daddy's music.

This video is from this morning. Mary Poppins has officially taken the place of Nutcracker in Maya's life. Enjoy our recent soundtrack...

Daddy in town and sleeping update...

Maya has been eagerly awaiting John's arrival to play with her and of course, enjoy the snow with her.

So, they immediately hit the driveway for some good ole fashioned shoveling fun.
Maya had no problems helping.
This past weekend was also opening night for Flickers, the Grand Rapids Ballet's Company's Charlie Chaplin inspired program.  It was a really fun performance and Maya thought Atila as Charlie Chaplin was a hoot.  One of the best parts of living in Grand Rapids is seeing all the wonderful ballet performances.
We did manage to get out in the snow for some cross country skiing.  John and I were pretty sore that night, me from slipping on an ice pack and John from biting it down a big hill.  We had a good time despite the falls.
John took Maya out to see Aunt Jeannine on very cold Lake MI.  Maya was thrilled to see her Aunt Nee Nee.
Jeannine always has wonderful activities for Maya to do when she is out on the Lake.
A view of cold Lake MI, still beautiful!
A very tired Maya, these days.  The transition to a big girl bed has not been free of its new challenges.  She is trying to navigate through her newfound freedom.  Lately, she wakes up at 4am.  John and I suddenly hear India Arie's CD blaring through the walls (yes, she also loves R&B and knows all the words, frightening).  I walk in to see all the lights on, Maya reading a book in her bed and jamming to the music.  Although funny, it is not amusing at 4am.

Our Big Girl

Maya has moved into her toddler bed, saying good-bye to the crib.
She loves her new big girl bed.
We will wait to report how often she gets out in the middle of the night. That report soon.
Maya has also started using scissors.
And, of course, helping around the house with chores.
Child labor is so much fun.
