Maya and I had the best getaway to Vegas this last weekend. YeYe and Grandma Liz arrived two days earlier for hikes in Red Rock (check out the red residue on Grandma Liz's face below). We stayed at Caesar's Palace in adjoining rooms that worked perfectly for the decadent weekend. I need to start with how good the food is there. The Beijing Noodle No 9 Restaurant was the all-time favorite with handmade noodles. Maya was a fan. We ordered a crib for Maya and it arrived as a metal cage (so fitting). Poor Maya looked like a Romanian orphan. She did sleep pretty well in it for those of you concerned by the appearance. Another highlight in Caesar's Palace, besides the food of course, was FAO Schwartz. And yes, they had the big piano! Maya's sensory overload included the endless fountains and aquariums. Here's Maya checking out the Bellagio fountain with Grandma Liz... We had to take the ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Gambling took a part in all the festivities. We are fans of the penny slots along with the free drinks. Somehow you feel like you came out on top. Vegas is also home to my cousin Josh and his family. Their daugher Eavan is 2 and they have a brand new son, Ansel. Josh teaches at the University in town and Amber, Josh's wife, has a cool job working with nobel writers. Grandma Liz was a true baby hog but he slept so well in her arms. Maya played it shy at first but eventually warmed up to the infectious spirit of Eavan.
The Proulx Crew just returned from a fun-filled three days in California's Central Coast. I had a nursing conference in Monterey, CA and planned to take the days as a Valentine's Getaway for John and I. But, after a week of the stomach flu, Maya managed to get her wonderful Aunt Mary sick. So, the getaway turned into a wonderful family vacation. While I managed the nursing booth, John and Maya explored the wonderful city of Monterey. First off, the Monterey Aquarium. With a great kids section, there was hours of fun (not to mention seals and penguins, a true hit). After her nap, John happened upon the Dennis the Menace park and let Maya run wild. On Tuesday, we took a walk together to see the ocean (her new obsession) and watch the waves and animals. We then headed to San Luis Obispo for the afternoon. They have a small but nice Children's Museum where Maya discovered the wonders of trains. First the toy trains... then a life-size train where Maya could be the conductor (all aboard). John looking fly... Maya looking caffeined... Despite the stomach flu and still loose bowel, the poor girl did great on the trip. Although she is still not eating much, she did manage to find room in her upset stomach for the hotel's chocolate chip cookie, thata girl!
